Jack Marder addresses many cultural habits and contemporary behaviours such as indulgent Internet use, voracious consumption, and capitalist driven excess. He explores the relation between online spaces, the physical body of an Internet user and the private spaces in which the Internet activity occurs. Jack is interested in the idea of finding escapism in the electronic screen and the internet’s power to make one passive through human-computer interaction. His current research positions and imagines the electronic screen and its user as two species within symbiotic relationships that fluctuate between being mutualistic through pleasure but also parasitic in nature. The narratives within his practice follow virtual communities and non-human or anthropomorphic figures of fantasy whilst exploring the notion of the reclusive object. 

Jack Marder was born in the UK in 1992 and currently works and lives in London. He received his MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in 2017 and his BA in 2015 from Birmingham School of Art in the West Midlands. He has exhibited nationally at a number of spaces and galleries and also internationally.

Recent exhibitions and events include 'This isn't what I asked for' at Five Years, London, #3 FEATURE produced by Dan Auluk and his work was selected by John Stezaker, Katharine Stout and Sonia Boyce for New Art West Midlands 2016. Jack was also invited to produce works through a collaborative residency at Tokyo Geidai which culminated with a group exhibition titled 'Complex Topography: Movement and Change' which was later part of the Setouchi Triennale (Autumn Term) 2016 at Ritsurin Koen in Takamatsu, Japan.
